Foster Care

(Ages birth to 21)

Provides temporary care for children who have a finding of abuse, neglect or dependency and are unable to remain safely in their home. A child in foster care has been placed in the temporary legal custody/or placement responsibility of the agency.

Services Provided

  • Case Management
    • that assesses well-being and safety needs
    • has a goal of reunifying children to their birth/removal parent or caretaker usually with-in 12 months and that is:
      • Family Centered
      • Strength based
      • Trauma-focused
      • Community-based
  • Foster Services 18 – 21 is extended foster care program that lets young adults who might otherwise age out of foster care at 18, to voluntarily agree to continue receiving foster care services, while transitioning to adulthood.
  • LINKS Program – is the North Carolina Foster Care Independent Living Program for youth and young adults, 13 – 21 years old, to assist with transitioning to adulthood.
  • Foster Home Licensing
    • Recruitment and training for traditional foster & adoptive resource parents
    • Assessment
    • Counseling and support

Adoption
Is a means of providing for children who are legally free for adoption because they cannot return to their parent or removal caretaker.
